The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) is pleased to announce the 2014 Summer Internship Program. IALR will host up to five interns with the Center for Sustainable and Renewable Resources. The goal is to provide meaningful on-the-job training and real-world leadership development experiences in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Funding for the program is provided by the IALR Foundation.

The Center for Sustainable and Renewable Resources (CSRR) internships will be eight weeks; 28 hours per week. The eight weeks must be completed between June 1, 2014 and August 8, 2014. Interns will receive a stipend of $3000 for the eight-week internship; payable in two installments upon successful completion of internship requirements. Interns will work with a CSRR scientist on projects associated with the plant biology program. Research projects may include training in some of the following: plant tissue culture of ornamental plant species, mutant analysis and characterization, analysis of plant proteins, gene cloning and characterization, molecular studies of gene expression using polymerase chain reaction and gel electrophoresis. A keen interest in plant biology and/or plant propagation is expected. The interns will be expected to conduct and document experiments carefully, with an attention to detail and technique.
