The Virginia Department of Transportation is currently searching for students to join our INTERNSHIP PROGRAM in multiple areas of our organization. 

ENGINEERING opportunities in areas such as: Construction, Environmental, Location and Design, Traffic Engineering, Structure and Bridge, Materials, Residency Operations, and Maintenance. 

BUSINESS opportunities in areas such as: Administrative Services, Business Transformations, Fiscal, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Local Assistance.
Full Internship Description:
The Internship Program is designed to give Interns exposure to the diverse types of work the Department performs and prepares them for a future career. This program also gives Interns hands-on job assignments and the opportunity to work closely with a diverse group of professionals. 

Interns spend the summer working on unique projects and activities. In addition, Interns get the opportunity to network with other interns. This allows them to learn from each other about the diverse needs of the organization. 

Students majoring in Civil Engineering, Industrial/Systems Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, or Information Technology or related field of study. VDOT is seeking students with strong analytical skills, interpersonal and presentation skills, customer service, time management, and organizational skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Be a US citizen or permanent US resident. 
*Be at least 18 years of age. 
* Undergraduate students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year, enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year accredited college/university. 
* Graduate students enrolled in a degreed program in an accredited college/university. 
* Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale or 3.0 or above on a 6.0 scale. 
* Complete a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester for undergraduate students and 9 graduate level credit hours for graduate students.   

Preferred Qualificaitons:
Successful Interns will be motivated, customer focused, and action-oriented individuals with a drive for learning on the job and achieving results. You will have demonstrated ability to make quality and timely decisions, take initiative, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, prioritize and organize multiple demands in a continuously changing environment, and meet established deadlines. Ability to anticipate problems, provide solutions, follow instructions, learn quickly, and collaborate with teammates is important. 

Speciali Requirements:
This position requires a fingerprint based criminal history background check and a DMV record check. 

Selected candidates will start the end of May 2015, work until August, and have opportunities to work during the school year. 

This is a part-time position - NO state benefits offered. 

Housing and Relocation are NOT provided. 

Some Intern positions may require unrestricted mobility including, at times, unrestricted mobility in irregular terrain; work in an outdoor environment; and the ability to lift, bend, and stand for long periods of time. 

Assignments may include requirements to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety vest, safety boots, etc.) and the ability to work from heights (may include requirement to wear fall protection equipment).

$14.00/hour Undergraduate Student 
$16.00/hour Graduate Student 

ENGINEER INTERN Hiring Range 
$15.50/hour Undergraduate Student 
$17.50/hour Graduate Student
