Marstel-Day, LLC, an environmental and conservation consulting firm, is seeking a highly motivated Research Intern or Interns with a strong commitment to a conservation ethic and a strong desire to identify and support strategies for natural resource conservation; and a commitment to use “green” best management practices in the performance of their work in the Company’s Fredericksburg Office on a variety of projects, primarily in support of the Company’s environmental, natural resource conservation, and sustainability initiatives.

Duties
The selected intern(s) will perform research on one or more projects under the guidance of staff members and also independently, depending on the specific project(s), and will be expected to produce memos, reports and written summaries of their research. They will be required to analyze and interpret data, and engage in fast-moving problem solving. Research Interns may be selected to deliver presentations to the company’s partners, employees, consultants or clients.  

Essential Functions Description
The intern(s) will normally work in an indoor, climate controlled work station or office, but may be required to travel to various other sites and/or offices which may not be climate controlled; will be required to communicate quickly and precisely with coworkers and clients, and craft written communication including the use of e-mail and other electronic reproduction of words, graphs, and photos.  Incumbent will be required to make regular use of and be proficient with computers, telephones, mobile communication devices, copy machines and printers.
Qualifications: Orientation, education, experience, training 
•	Exhibit well-developed research, writing and editing skills 
•	Undertaken a major independent research project, or participated in a collaborative research project, that led to a final, written report 
•	Possess a strong desire to identify and support strategies for natural resource conservation and a commitment to use green best management practices in the performance of work
•	Be pursuing or have recently graduated with a BS/BA in the Arts, Letters or Sciences 
o	Have a GPA of 3.4 or better
o	A candidate pursuing or holding a Master’s Degree in a related field is a plus
•	Have strong, demonstrable analytical, oral and written communication skills
•	Have the demonstrated ability to work independently and in teams
•	Possess strong attention-to-detail, initiative, and self-motivation 
•	Possess strong skills in preparation and delivery of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel products
•	Have strong organizational skills 
•	Past military experience is a plus
•	Be eligible to work in the U.S. (DHS Form I-9 must be completed by the incumbent and submitted to DHS for verification of citizenship and eligibility through E-Verify)
•	The incumbent will be required to submit to a background check as a condition of any final offer of employment.  Depending on the exact nature of the work the position may entail, the applicant may also be required to submit to a credit and financial background check. This required contingency and evaluation continues even after hiring.

Salary and Hours and Benefits
The Research Internship will be a will be non-regular, full- or part-time positions for a fixed period, depending on the intern(s) circumstances. An intern will be paid a monthly stipend set at an hourly rate that will vary based on education and experience, but ranging from $13.50 - $18.00 per hour. Performance of weekly hours will be flexible to accommodate class schedules. The position is considered a “non-exempt” position under the Fair Labor Standards Act and any overtime on a weekly or daily basis would be paid beyond the stipend.

Opportunity for Conversion
Interns who have completed their academic work toward their Bachelor or advanced degree are eligible for consideration for conversion to regular employment status at the end of their internship, and will be considered for such conversion within one month of the expiration of their internship.
