Internship Title:NASA Langley IT Opportunities
Brief Internship Description:
Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies, Inc. (SGT), located in Hampton, VA, provides research support and engineering services for various NASA Langley Aeronautics and Space programs. SGT is offering internship positions to support several IT projects including Data Center operations, High Performance Computing, Application Development, and Cloud Computing. All positions will directly contribute to NASA Langley missions.

SGT is looking for motivated and self-directed candidates with some hands-on experience with the listed technologies for the positions.
Full Internship Description:
Data Center Operations
The candidate will work as part of a Data Center operations team that supports assets and environmental controls (HVAC, lights, electric meters,…) of facilities across the NASA Langley campus.  The candidate will perform:
•	Section 508 compliance testing of user interfaces
•	Updates to Visio diagrams to reflect current system architecture
•	IT inventory audit 
•	Active Directory OU Audit/cleanup (remove orphaned/non-existent systems and unused groups)
•	Windows & Linux Scripting and Patching
•	Data center cable management

Skills required: 
•	Understanding/experience of Active Directory
•	Hands-on experience with scripting in Windows or Linux environments

High Performance Computing
The candidate will assist with maintenance and evaluation of High Performance Computer.  The candidate will:
•	Evaluate and set-up Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors
•	Linux/Unix scripting and patching
•	Replace bad memory/nodes module

Skills required:
•	Some Linux experience 
•	Some scripting experience (Bash/Shell, Perl, Python)
•	Understanding of GPU/Phi, high performance computing 
•	Some web site development would also be a plus.

 

Application Development
The candidate will work in an Application Development team that supports web sites and applications for the entire NASA Langley center. The candidate will assist with the development of automated application monitoring and definition of process/tool kit for functional regression testing of legacy applications.
Skills required:
•	Understanding of web application architecture and technologies
•	Some experience with PHP and/or JavaScript
•	Understanding of databases, some experience with MySQL is a plus

Cloud Computing
The candidate will assist with the migration of applications to Cloud and evaluation of private cloud solutions.  The candidate will:
•	Containerize existing applications
•	Define template container for application stacks (PHP/MySQL, Node.js/MySQL or  Postgres)
•	Create a process for deploying Atlassian suite in a single click (AMI, Docker Container, etc.)
•	Assist with OpenStack evaluation

Skills required:
•	Some experience with Amazon Web Services cloud computing environment
•	Understanding of web application architecture and technologies
•	Some experience with PHP and/or JavaScript
•	Understanding of databases, some experience with MySQL is a plus
•	Understanding of OpenStack architecture
