Brief Internship Description:
The Port of Virginia's 8 Week Summer Internship Program runs from June 4-July 27 and is designed to develop, teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students as they explore career opportunities within the maritime industry. Students will be given the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to hands on project focused tasks in various departments throughout The Port of Virginia.

Eligibility Requirements 

1. Must be available to work full time (40 hours per week) during June 4 - July 27. 
2. Must be currently enrolled in an accredited four year college program (having completed freshman year). 
3. Preferred 3.2 GPA or higher (must be able to provide proof of current enrollment and GPA if selected). 
4. Selected applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment background check which may include any of the following: Academic record and verification of education and/or certifications; Employment history (including references); Criminal history; Driving record; Fingerprinting; drug and alcohol testing, Fit for duty Physical, Other records or information related to the candidate's suitability for the position.

* In order to gain access to the Port of Virginia Marine Terminals you will need to have a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.  If you do not have one, please go to UES Enrollment Center 232 Business Park Drive, Ste. 200, Virginia Beach, VA 23462-6537 to apply. They are open from 8:30am-4:30pm Monday – Friday.  You can access additional information at www.tsa.gov/twic to begin the enrollment process.  There is a cost of $125.25, you will be reimbursed.  Please bring the receipt with you on your first day.
