TNC in Virginia is looking for an intern to work alongside our Conservation Scientist on projects ranging from land protection to conservation planning. The intern will assist with managing and maintaining conservation databases and providing technical support in GIS. Role may require work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

The GIS Technician is a full-time, paid, 10-week internship. This position is based in Charlottesville, Virginia with a hybrid work schedule, housing assistance may be available. The internship will run from May-August 2023. Main responsibilities include:  
•	Assisting with maintaining and populating data and records databases and manual files 
•	Producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports
•	Developing and maintaining GIS library and/or database products library

This position will be part of our Summer 2023 intern cohort and will receive an orientation, professional development resources, exposure to TNC lands and preserves, and real-world work experience to further academic and/or career goals. Intern term runs from May 30th – August 11th 2023.

What You’ll Bring:
•	Associates degree in related field and 2 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•	At least 24 credit-hours of collegiate-level course work in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
•	Experience with operating GIS software to conduct spatial analyses using remote sensing data.
•	Familiarity with coding using Google Earth Engine, and the ability to rapidly learn and apply new code.
•	Interest in forest ecology and forest conservation topics.
•	Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and web browsers.
•	Must have valid driver’s license, safe driving record (per TNC Auto Safety Program) and provide own transportation and personal automobile insurance.
