Internship Title:Aerostructures Intern
Brief Internship Description:
Under the general direction of a project technical engineer, serve as a junior-level member of a design team performing conceptual design for engineering review and direction to drafting – design personnel.
Full Internship Description:
Primary product lines for design activities will be unmanned aerial vehicles, modification of existing aircraft structures, fixed and rotary wing, and design-to-build activities for commercial and military aircraft including composite and metallic structure, mechanical system components/routings and electrical/avionics systems component installations.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Support Airframe Design Lead. Perform Airframe structural configuration layout and detail design including structural layouts, preliminary sizing, joint layouts and part design utilizing metallic and composite materials.
 
Generates CAD solid models and drawings at top assembly and component levels. Translation of design specification requirements into conceptual models is a primary requirement of the position with respect to construction of the product to meet interface boundaries, weight targets, cost targets and under guidance of Sr. Design Engineering/Analysts, structural integrity. Ability to create parametric product geometry models desired.
 
Prepares documentation to support design decisions and to resolve issues. Prepares PowerPoint presentations for PDRs and CDRs. Assists the project engineer in preparing for technical interchange meetings and technical program reviews.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education and Experience)
Enrolled student for an undergraduate degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering in an accredited university, having completed at least one full year of studies. Experience with CAD tools (CATIA V5 preferred). Prefer local Virginia resident.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Ability to maneuver around equipment in test labs and on aircraft
 
MUST be a US Person or Permanent Resident Green Card Holder.
