HemoSonics is a medical device start-up developing a point of care diagnostic to measure coagulation. Interns will actively support product development and preparation for clinical validation via coagulation experiments, mechanical and electrical system optimization, assembly of disposable cartridges and data analysis.

Overview:  As a summer intern with HemoSonics, you will gain first-hand experience of the research required for the development and validation of a medical device while you work closely with our team to bring a life-saving device to market. The dynamic nature of a small company provides a unique opportunity to become familiar with many aspects of the firm. Interns at HemoSonics challenge themselves on a daily basis to take on tasks outside of their comfort zone and apply the knowledge learned in the classroom in a fast-paced industry setting.  

Requirements: Applicant should be an undergraduate in a School of Engineering department such as Biomedical, Mechanical, Materials or Electrical Engineering. You must possess a willingness to learn, an ability to work well in a team and advanced problem solving skills. A basic knowledge of laboratory skills (pipetting, solution making, etc.) is also required for this job.

Job Activities: Interns will actively support our product development and preparation for clinical validation. Tasks will include wet lab support in helping HS scientists perform blood coagulation experiments, test reagent repeatability , determine optimal reagent concentrations and help develop assays. Interns will also help HS engineers with mechanical and electrical system optimization for the medical device prototype and with the assembly of disposable cartridges for prototype experiments. Finally, interns will learn to analyze the data obtained, write professional reports and present the information to the team.
