Internship Title:Electronics Design and Manufacturing Support Engineer

Participate in support of design, test and production of various electronic based products produced by EIT, LLC.
Full Internship Description:
EIT is a world class electronic engineering and electronic contract manufacturing firm located in Sterling Virginia. For over 30 years we have designed and manufactured a host of products for a wide range of large and small customers in various fields such as medical/healthcare, industrial control, telecommunications and defense.  In addition EIT designs, manufactures and globally markets our own product line of ultraviolet (UV) radiometers to support process control requirements in the UV curing industry. 
The intern will provide support to EIT’s electrical engineering team, assisting with the selection of components, development of schematics and bills of materials, preparation and review of final fabrication and assembly documents and performance of verification and validation testing and writing of final test reports.  The intern will also be exposed to the manufacturing processes utilized to produce these items. This experience will acquaint the intern with the real world practices, tools and methods associated with the design, and production of electronic products.  Because EIT is an electronic assembly manufacturer the intern will have the opportunity to gain an insight and familiarity with both the design techniques and the manufacturing considerations necessary to develop products that can be successfully manufactured and tested while meeting high quality standards.
The intern will have the opportunity to work with highly experienced electronics design engineers and a very accomplished manufacturing team.  The intern will also be introduced to useful tools and resources that will help them grow both professionally and personally throughout the program.  
Qualifications: The successful candidate will need to be enrolled in a Bachelor’s program for Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.  We are looking for more experienced candidates that include college/university juniors, seniors, or graduating seniors.  

Required Skills:  The candidate must have a basic understanding of design and test techniques and solid verbal and written communication skills.  
Electrical candidates must have taken classes in or have working experience with: 
Analog and Digital electronics circuit design
Microprocessor Programming
Use of lab tools like Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Volt/Ohm multi-meters, etc
Familiarity with ECAD and/or design simulation tools is a plus
Mechanical candidates must have taken classes in or have working experience with:
Mechanics of Materials  
Mechanics of Deformable Bodies
Heat Transfer
Electrical Circuit Theory
Familiarity with 3D Solid Modeling CAD systems is a plus

The candidate must also be proficient in the MS Office Suite; experience with analysis tools such as Lab View is a plus.

Duties:  The successful intern will:
Participate in the design and documentation of electronic devices.  
Assist with the procurement, assembly and test/debug of prototype devices.
Support engineers as necessary to review product designs and test results in order to develop design change requirements to enhance performance and/or reduce manufacturing costs.  
Interact with various operating departments as required to assist EIT in achieving its technical and business objectives
